How It Works

Step 1: Complete your portion of the application and return to New Life K9s.

Step 2: Have your physician complete the second portion of the application and send it directly to New Life K9s.

Step 3: We will review your application, and if approved you will be added to our waitlist.

After we have a dog ready to be placed we move on to step 4.

Step 4: You will be sent a personality test along with seven people that know you well. In the meantime, the same test is being completed by the dog's volunteer puppy raisers, their inmate handlers, and our canine educators.

Step 5: Our canine educators will evaluate the tests and determine the top 3 veterans or first responders that match with the dog.

Step 6: The top 3 matches will be interviewed by our canine educators to find the best match.

Step 7: The top match will begin the 2-week Bootcamp with the service dog to work on building a bond that ensures a successful team.

Step 8: After successful completion of the 2-week Bootcamp you will begin your new life with your service dog.

New Life K9s is committed to eliminating discrimination on the basis of gender, age, disability, race, religion, sexuality, or social class. We aim to provide service dogs, delivered in a way that respects the needs of each individual and does not exclude anyone. By demonstrating these beliefs New Life K9s ensures that it develops a service dog program that is diverse, and nondiscriminatory.
