Best Dog Parks in San Luis Obispo County

If you live in beautiful San Luis Obispo County, you know we have stunning sites. From beaches to off-road trails, there are a plethora of places to spend your time. Maybe you are searching for a safe spot to let your furry friend frolic in all their puppy glory. Finding a safe space for you and your pup to enjoy at a local park is the subject of this week’s blog post.   

This week, we will look at 5 dog parks that are designed for off-leash play in San Luis Obispo County. 

We will start our list in North County, and move our way south. 

Heilmann Dog Park

Heilmann Dog Park is located in Atascadero and was established by dog lovers in North County. Located at 9445 El Bordo Ave in Atascadero.  

Why it’s dog friendly: This doggy park features a large off-leash area, double-gated entry points, water as well as a dog area specified for smaller dog breeds. 

Hours: Open 7 days a week from 8am to 7pm 

Vineyard Dog Park

Vineyard Dog Park is located in Templeton, within the stunning vineyards. It is located at 1010 Semillon Ln off the 101 Freeway. 

Why it’s dog friendly: This park is around 1 acre in size, providing plenty of space for your pup to let out their energy. This park also has fenced-off areas for both small dogs and larger dogs. 

Hours: Open 7 days a week from 7am to 6pm 

El Chorro 

El Chorro Dog Park is hailed as the first dog park in SLO County. El Chorro Regional Park is a 700-acre park situated between San Luis Obispo and Morro Bay. Located within El Chorro Regional Park on Dairy Creek Rd, off Highway 1. 

Why it’s dog friendly: This park boasts two fenced dog areas where dogs can frolic off-leash. It also features areas for both small and large dogs. The park provides mutt mitts, water stations, shade, and picnic tables.

Hours: Open 7 days a week from 7:30am until sunset. 

Elm Street Dog Park

Elm Street Dog Park is the only dog park located in the Five Cities Area. It is located in Arroyo Grande and is a free public dog park. This park is located at Elm St and Ash St in Arroyo Grande. 

Why it’s dog friendly: Contains double-gated entries, a fenced-off area for both small and large dogs, water, and shade. 

Hours: 8am to sunset

Nipomo Dog Park

If you are in south county, Nipomo Regional Park has a fenced dog area sectioned into three parts. The off-leash dog park is located inside Nipomo Regional Park. The park is located at 904 West Tefft St in Nipomo. 

Why it’s dog friendly: Like other dog parks on our list, Nipomo Dog Park contains three sections of fenced-off areas for dogs with double gated entry points. The park provides mutt mitts, water, shade, and benches. The area even has agility ramps to entertain your pup. 

Hours: Open 7 days a week 8am to 7pm 

Please be aware that with the spring season and summer fast approaching, there may be some fees to enter some parks.
