About Leon
Hello, I'm Leon and I'm an English chocolate Labrador Retriever. I'm lovable, energetic, and fun. Almost everyone comes to love me at first sight; I'm adorable. I'm very confident for my age, and I believe I can expand it even more as I mature. I hope to become a service dog and graduate with full public access.

September 2020 Update
Hey!
How is everyone doing? I hope all is well with everyone during these hard times! As for myself, I have been doing well. I've been working on my manners with my handlers and I'm starting to understand how important it is! I love food and it is hard to resist but I know I should not eat anything off the floor or counter. So when my handler says "Ick," or "that's not for you," I know that I have to leave it alone. Well please stay safe everyone. Until next time. Talk to you soon!

August 2020 Update
Hello everyone,
It's Leonitus and I have a mighty roar! It's actually a little bark but no one else has to know. I'm so excited to be a part of a new program where every 2 weeks I will be placed with a different team of handlers. I will be able to show off my skills and get to learn more. On top of that, I will be able to make more friends.
I'm looking forward to teaching new guys how to walk and play with me. I'm learning better social behaviors when walking and playing. I'm working super hard so until next time! WOOF!

I'm back and I have a few things to share with everyone. I've been working hard on my behavior this month with all of my friends. I'm learning how to play better and have fun. I use to have a short temper, but I'm happier now. I enjoy being in our teaching sessions and learning different skills. This month I've been learning how to retrieve, pick out colors, walk behind, and respond to an emergency recall. It's been a lot of work, but I'm up for the challenge. I look forward to sharing my progress next month. Until later. Bye!

This month has been fun and challenging. I have lots of fun when I am learning how to do an emergency recall. My teachers yell out my favorite word and I get to run back to them as fast as I can. It's always fun and exciting. We also play a game called freeze. We all run around and act crazy, then all of the sudden everyone stops. They look frozen like statues. I try to copy them, but sometimes it's difficult because I'm so excited. I'll learn how to freeze like them very soon. I'm still learning how to play nice with all my friends. At times, I still play a little too rough. I am getting better when walking on leash with one of my teachers. Birds and cats are exciting and I'm learning not to chase, bark, and lunge at them. Bye for now!

It's Leon again everyone and I've some great news to share. My request for advance placement in the New Life K9's program has been approved. I was assigned a new handler that began teaching me about magnificent manners and about having good social behavior. I didn't realize it's so much work, but I have to keep working hard to improve myself. I have a short temper when it comes to cats, squirrels, and some younger puppies. I'll be studying and working hard to be nicer to my little puppy friends. Enjoy the holidays!
December 2019 Update

Hello everybody, I'm Leon. This month, I've been working on a bit of everything. Opening a door is easy, but closing a door takes so much practice. I can see myself in the future, not only opening doors for my human, but closing them after myself, so that my human won't need to. Instead of using my front paws, I'm learning to nudge the door closed with my nose. See you next month!

Hello everybody! This month I've been working on walking by cats. There are so many of them around here, and they're so fun to chase. But I know I shouldn't be trying to play with them while I'm on leash. I've really trying to ignore them while I walk. When I'm placed with my future person I need to be on my best behavior so that I don't cause anyone to get angry at us. I'm doing my best! In case anyone is wondering, I really love pepperoni treats. Feel free to drop some off for me and my friends. I'm still working on my pulling issues. Sometimes I walk with my handlers perfect, and at times I tent to be in a hurry. I know I need to master this skill and I'm confident that I can do it. Just give me some time, I'll get it right. My favorite game is tug. I always win! My handlers are strong but not strong as I am. Sometimes it seems too easy. One day I might just let me handlers win. Cooper, on the other hand, is strong and we're almost a good match, except he's a little stronger. Bye for now!

It's me, Leon! I'm currently struggling with my walking because there are so many cats and squirrels where I live. It seems there's a cat or squirrel around every corner or besides the walkways. I'm trying my best to get used to them because I know I can't draw my future human if I try to chase them. My handlers are working closely with me, constantly. We've been doing a lot of walking, talking, and food sharing. We'll get there. My favorite playmates are Angel and Maria. Angel gives me a challenge. Maria, on the other hand, plays with some challenge, but I have to be careful with her because she's little. At this time, my role model is Cooper. He's so cool!

This month I’ve been learning to give the items I retrieve. Also, I’ve been learning to climb on top of benches and racks, so that I can build my confidence. I don’t normally jump on things, but I know eventually I’ll have to be confident enough to do it when I need to. I still need to grow a bit taller for a better leap. I have kennel cough right now, so I can’t play with my friends until I’m better. For now, I’m enjoying time alone, long walks, and doing some exploring. It’s wonderful! Talk to you next time!

Hello everybody! This is your young, male chocolate Lab at CMC-West. This month I’m working on opening and closing doors, retrieving items, and identifying items, such as a leash, a book, a remote control, and a monkey. It’s not easy work, but I’m making’ it happen. My walking could use a little work because there are so many things to distract me while I walk. I’ll keep trying my best until I get it right. I want to be the best service dog ever, so I need to refine my skills. I know I can do it! My favorite playmate is Hana. She’s always got me on my back, but its only because I let her think she’s winning. Thanks for reading this message and I’ll see you next month.

Leon here! This month I've been working on my walking. I have a tendency to walk behind my handlers, but I realize what I'm doing as soon as they call my name or slow down. I'm getting better. I've also gone swimming this month! I'm still young, and I'm getting used to being in a swimming pool. I'm sure I'll enjoy it more as I mature. And, I'm even learning to count numbers. It helps me get smarter. In the end, I want to be the perfect friends, companion, and assistant for my future human so we can enjoy life together. Lately, I've been enjoying time with my friend Maria. She comes into my crate once a day and we wrestle, of course, I take it easy on her because she's little and because I'm the perfect gentle puppy. Yeah, that's how I roll.
May Update 2019

Hey everyone! This month I'm working on my walking, learning to open and close doors, and I'm learning counting and identifying shapes. When I master my walking technique I will not be a burden on anyone who may be trying to walk me. Opening and closing doors is a good skill because my future veteran or first responder may need my assistance in retrieving medication or water. If I open a cabinet door to get an item, I can close the door after myself so that my person won't have to. And if my person needs me to tug open, or close a bigger door I'll be able to do that too. During playtime I love to wrestle with Hana. We take turn pinning each other down. And for treats, I love banana, apples, and carrots. That's it for now. Talk to you next time.
