Hi I'm Nelson. I'm a very well-behaved, (wink wink), Golden Retriever. I love to play with my brothers and little sister. Sometimes I give my handlers a hard time because I know they need it for their own growth. I know they can take it. I have a really big, green yard to play in. Sometimes there are lots of humans out there, but when it's playtime, I hardly notice them because I enjoy playing with my other brothers and sister. Mostly, I enjoy helping someone who is struggling. Little did I know I'm a very good teacher, but some of the other dogs might say different. But it's okay. I still love them.

Every day, Monday through Friday, it's something new. After morning playtime we all go to the gymnasium and work on our daily lessons, like open door, go to, go get help, colors, light switch, and socks. Didn't anyone tell these guys that school is out for the summer? And where are we anyway? Death Valley? It's hot! Good thing my handler has an extra fan. Oh, and this place is a gopher hunter's paradise. The holes are everywhere and I love it! My favorite things are eating string cheese and playing with my brother Zach.
June 2020 Update
Thus past month, all of us dogs here at PVSP have been working on a variety of things like "go get," "colors," "yes/no," "brace," "open and close door," and "we-leash." Gosh, we've been busy and learning/practicing lots of stuff. Personally, I've been working on being more patient with the younger pups here, which can at times make me appear to be a bully, but really I am just being a big bro--no harm intended. Hopefully I can see my Puppy Parent soon! My brother Zach and I play and wrestle in the grass everyday. It's the best!
May 2020 Update
Well, hello. I am working on the same thing you all are working—PATIENCE! Now I love my handlers, Chad and Ernesto, but we all need a break occasionally if ya know what I mean. Seriously— we're all good here, as long as we have kibble and biscuits, we're good, right? It's not as if we need toilet paper. This is no vacation. We still have to do our work! Be safe, ya'll! I look forward to playtime with my brother Zach, but I also love my buddle time with my two handlers.
April 2020 Update
This is Nelson with an update! Those wonderful teenage years go by so fast. I feel it, I know they will be behind me soon. Although I'll miss those wild and crazy months of carefree fun and play, I also look forward to the next chapter, whatever it may be, and wherever it may lead me. I know now that change is just a part of life. There will be good and bad, but overall, we can all adapt and even embrace whatever comes out way. Love is all we need! My brother Zach is my best buddy and playmate and not that I am older, I do love me a good, long nap.
March 2020 Update
Listen, people, if you are someone I know and I am about to greet you, I get a bit excited. Sometimes my handler has to remind me not to jump. Obviously, if you would just come down to my level, it might not happen, but that's why I am a dog and you are a human. We have different greeting procedures. Everyone says I am doing better so I must be. I also get really excited when playtime is near. I mean, who doesn't, right? I am not pointing any fingers, or paws in my case, but it's usually my handler who gets a bit anxious and excited first. I think he's figured that out and he's doing things a little differently now, and we're both going out to playtime a bit more chill. I must say, my brother, Carson has moved on to another place. My handler explained everything to me. I know we fought a lot as brothers do, but it is a bit odd now without him and we all miss him. Brothers forever. That's all for now. See ya all next month.
February 2020 Update
I don't like it when my handlers leave me alone, to even for a minute. It makes me anxious, but I'm learning that they always come back. It's getting a little easier, but I still speak my mind. Who wants to be alone in this crazy world? Not me! Getting ready for the big game this weekend- one that puppy bowl! I love anything that squeaks. My two brothers, Carson and Zach, are my favorite playmates. I also like that little pup Finn, too.
January 2020 Update
Hello, paw are you guys? This is Nelson at P.V.S.P. Great news; I am going to be one year old, I'm a big dog now. I might have a party and gifts, yeah! Right after my birthday, they are going to neuter me, whatever that is, what I don't like about this whole neuter thing is, that I hear them say that they are gonna take my play time away for two weeks, what? Nooooo! Take anything, ANYTHING from me, but please don't take my play time.
November 2019 Update
Hello! In case you forgot, I am a smart and beautiful golden retriever named Nelson. I spend most of my time at PVSP. I have two brothers here, Zach and Carson. I've been busy lately-lots of things going on. I get excited and happy to see those who I love, so I jump on them when I greet. I am trying to remember to "keep 4 on the floor." They have this thing Calle a "we leash" that I am try to master, kind of makes me fee like I am walking myself. I know what a pill bottle is now and I am learning to get it when it's needed.
My favorite pastime is playing with all my PVSP puppy friends and brothers. We play tug, keep away and chase. I love a good nap and massages from my handlers. I have a zebra toy I really like, but there's nothing like a good raw-hide!
I get too excited around play time, I can't help it! Recently, my teammates Ernesto, Chad, and Frankie started to take my play time away. Around that time, my brother Carson started acting differently towards me. He squares off and gives me this look. His behavior drives me crazy. I just trie to check him several times. I tried to play with him and he just stands there looking at me like I am an idiot. Since my teammates don't speak dog, they think I am the problem. I know they get frustrated. I even heard some of the saying that I wasn't going to make it (I understand their language). I love all of my teammates- human and dogs- and I am going to prove to them all that I am a good dong and that using their help I can be a great service dog. Hugs and robbers to all of you!
October 2019 Update
This is Nelson barking your way with an exciting update. Lately I am working on not getting overly excited in anticipation of playtime with my brothers and other puppies. Also I am working on proper greeting methods with humans, which means no jumping. Apparently some humans don't like that. These are all good manners that will make me a great service dog. My favorite pastime is being outside and rolling in the grass and playing with my handlers and other dogs. I love rawhides and long naps. I mean, who doesn't?
September 2019 Update
December 2019 Update
It was a crazy month which began with me having my birthday on 12/1- Yes, my puppy days are over, now I'm a big boy! Then my brothers, Carson, Zack, and I all went to the place where they give shots, took a nap, and woke up with these cone things around our necks, which got us all hootin' and hollerin' to get out of there. They gave me a new squeaky toy-- it was a nut, not sure why-- everyone keep's saying "sorry boy" to me-- what are they sorry about? Anyways, I had to wear that one for what seemed like forever, but it finally came off and I was allowed to play, oh what a day that was. I spent Christmas with my puppy raiser and second New Year's with my handlers. I am trying to be more of a big boy now, but I do at times get really happy when I see someone I know and I jump on them before I even realize it. Whoops! And I still don't like being left alone when I am in my crate-- seriously, what if there was a natural disaster like an earthquake or tsunami? Who's going to let me out? SO I call out to let it be known that I am uncomfortable with the situation. Thankfully, my handler is always nearby to reassure me that all is well. That's all for now. See ya next month!
