About Eli
Hi my name is Eli. I was born April 8, 2019 and I'm full of energy. I'm a yellow Lab. I'm very handsome, if I may say so. I love meeting new people. I get so excited, I just can't help jumping, but I don't mean to be rude. I'm just always in search of a belly rub, so if you happen to see me, can you please come down to my level? So that my handler won't have to tell me four paws on the ground, Eli.
From Eli's Handlers
"Being a part of New Like K9s has changed my understanding of life from selfish to selfless. Everyday caring for Eli, as well as for all the other puppies, makes it impossible to picture not being a part of New Life K9s. My team is not perfect, what family is? However, what we are together is united by the love we have for our 10 pups. It has caused me to become open-minded by way of frustrations. Each day, I learned that I don't have to be perfect as long as my heart is in the right direction I'll be okay. I'm happy when I get up every morning because I know without a doubt I'm a little bit better than I was the day before. I owe it to all the natural life skills and tools I'm learning each day." -Theron

October 2020 Update
Hello everyone! I’ve been great and having a good time. I’ve been working on being less cranky and snappy. I don’t realize I’m doing it but I know I need to work on it. I mainly do it when I’m sleepy or tired. I have also been working on saying hi to people. I think I’m very good at that. I can be a bit of a beggar and my dad has been helping me out with that. I’ll keep doing my best! Talk to everyone soon!

September 2020 Update

Hello, it's me again, king Eli. :) I've been doing just fine. I'm getting better with my leash walking and with no eating everything off of the ground. Sometimes I struggle with that one behavior but I'm doing my best. I settle and relax well, and I've gotten better when I greet people. Things I'm hoping to improve on is jumping. I love treats of all kind. Who doesn't? My favorite games are tug and keep away. Check back next month for another update.

Hi, it's Eli again, reporting that I have stepped my game up a bit. And it hasn't been easy. But I love the praise I get when I do the right things. I don't eat off the ground like I used to. Only when I can get away with it... So next month I'll share with you more about how well I'm doing. Be safe!
April 2020 Update

Eli here! I have been working on my manners for the longest time and I believe I've gotten a lot better. I don't jump as much as I used to and I'm not eating off of the ground as much as I want to. I can walk on the left or right sides. I stay close when I'm off-leash. I would say I'm doing really well! However, my handler (I call him dad) feels I can do better. I know he's doing what's best. However, all I really want to do is play. My favorite pastime is eating, THEN playing.
March 2020 Update

Hello everyone, it's Eli.
I want you all to know I'm walking with my We-Leash attachment. I'm also better at my greeting when meeting people, however with dogs I'm not there yet. In the morning when I go out, we walk about three laps around the yard, and we practice "Ick," and walking by distractions. The We-Leash attachment has helped me to do better. I've been working on not jumping, as well.
So, until next month, I'll keep doing my best until I'm able to do it all by myself.
My favorite pastimes right now are playing tug-of-war, running, an eating.
February 2020 Update

I'm still trying not to jump and pull on the leash. It's hard for me when I get excited... which I do all the time. I just love meeting people, so my excitement takes over. However, there are times when I'm able to control myself. Oh and I'm trying not to beg, but come on I'm a Labrador! I love food and treats and I believe I'm doing my best right now. Hopefully, soon these won't be the things I'm working on.
January 2020 Update
-
Hello it's Eli! I've been learning how to walk on the right side. My dad and Uncle Rob have been helping me a great deal with it. It's getting easier by the day. My dad has really been on me talking about my behaviors and manners. So I've been really trying my best to remember it is not okay to jump on anyone or on tables or eat off the ground. :( As well as not begging for food. That's what I'm working on, so I'll keep you guys posted on how well I do. Until then, be safe!
December 2019 Update

This month, my dad has really been on me about my manners: jumping, eating off the ground, and my greeting people or other dogs. I'm really trying my best and sometimes I get it right. My dad has been talking to me more. We have been spending a lot of one on one time together. I can see that he believes in me and I'm really giving it my all. He tells me not to worry we'll keep trying as much as it takes until I'm able to do it on my own. I love to play, eat treats, and cuddle. I'm always happy and I'll be the happiest when I can play with my buddies again.
November 2019 Update
-
Over the last month, I think I'm doing well! I'm walking better on the leash; however, at times I pull because I see something I want or something that excites me. I can't help it! I want to eat everything I see on the ground and I'm so sick of hearing the command "ick." I'm a puppy and eating everything on the ground is just what I do. *shrugs* I'm not very good at this whole "relaxing" thing. I love to visit the day room and say hi to any groups wherever I go. Right now, I'm working on my manners and habits and I think I'm doing very well! See you next month!

Eli here with an update. This month I've learned how to be patient at the door and at feeding time. I'm doing pretty O.K. with patience coming in from outside. I'm trying my best, but I just get so excited when I see some people. I understand relax well when my dog handler needs me to be at times so he can get things done. I love to play and interact with people and my brothers and sister. I'm getting bigger and stronger, but pulling on the leash more than I should. However, I'm working on that more. My favorite things to do are eat, play with toys, play games, and sleep. I also love my belly rubbed. I can never seem to get enough of that. What's my favorite treat? It's whatever you have in your hand.

It's Eli! I've been working on colors, "yes or no," easy on the leash walking, four paws on the ground, patience at the door... four paws on the ground is what is really hard for me to do. I get very excited! I'm also getting better on the leash. I've been going out every day, getting practice, so hopefully real soon I will be a pro at it. Right now all I want is treats and playtime. But I will keep working hard because service dog work is so important.
